Relaborate: From Idea to Development

Over the last few years working in Social Media, just about every company we’ve talked with has been able to figure out how to have a successful Facebook and Twitter account.  However, more often than not, companies have a problem delivering a solid blog – and that is usually way more important.  So in late 2011, we decided to build our own tool to help with this.

The Start:

We started working with clients on this problem, and the more we worked, the more we realized this was a problem many companies were having.  So, we raised some seed money and put together a development team to start building a solution that everyone could use, not just us.

In the next few months, the Relaborate team has attacked every part of building a company from scratch.  We’ve worked hard to balance what we want the product to look like a year from now, with the ability to launch in a timely manner, with a feature set that works for almost everyone.  Our entire team has worked on raising additional money, starting a marketing campaign, and most importantly, diligently testing Relaborate to make sure it’s something we want to share with our colleagues.

The Present:

What you see now is an alpha version of Relaborate which we are testing with a core set of friends, colleagues and marketing enthusiasts.  We’re excited to see posts developed on the Relaborate  platform published on blogs in a number of industries, including technology, assisted living, marketing services and the non-profit space.

We still have a long way to go and a lot to learn.  But the most important lesson we can share is that you always have 100 balls in the air as a start-up.  Investors want to see customers, and customers want to see a solid product, and a solid product gets created by great developers, and great developers love to join companies with investors.  The key is to break your way into the virtuous cycle with a combination of brains, guile and determination.
